Area's project for leading law firm Mills & Reeve has been shortlisted for a Mixology North Award. The project is a finalist in the 'Project of the Year: Commercial Interiors - 15,000 - 30,000 sq ft' category for the successful office design and delivery of the 30,000 sq ft workplace project on Colmore Row in Birmingham.
The offices underwent a 30-week refurbishment to improve the client experience and create a better working environment for all end-users by way of flexible spaces, allowing people to get together to collaborate and socialise.
With six floors in constant operation and located in a prime area of Birmingham’s business district access was tight, timescales tighter and work had to be undertaken without disruption to the day-to-day running of a major law firm. The design concept reflects the Mills & Reeve brand but is tailored to the Birmingham location, embracing the history of the area and the architectural features of the building.
The project demanded a planned phasing of the refurbishment, moving and decanting Mills & Reeve teams from one floor to another across the four ‘working’ floors making use of the ground floor, basement and top floor.
This year’s judges included developers, end-user clients, property consultants, architects and academics – all heavily involved in the commercial interior design industry. The winner of each category will be announced at the Mixology North19 awards, taking place on the 5 December 2019 at Manchester Central.
