Area’s project for global enterprise software company IFS has been shortlisted for the Project of the Year – over 15,000 to 30,000 sq ft - category at Mix Interiors’ Mixology20 Awards!

The award is judged on a workplace’s exceptional design, how it supports HR attraction and retention strategies, its environmental impact and how it helps the client achieve their business and design objectives.

When IFS relocated their UK Headquarters to Staines-upon-Thames, they required a workplace design that puts their clients and employees at the heart of the solution. Supporting employee wellbeing and providing an extraordinary client experience for visitors and clients were pivotal elements of the original brief.

IFS’ UK Headquarters is set across a two-storey building with the first floor accommodating the main working environment and the ground floor being utilised for the client’s transient workforce, client-facing facilities, a staff restaurant and auditorium.

Having previously been in a closed office environment, IFS wanted to take this relocation opportunity to introduce flexibility and agile working opportunities into the space, as well as create a warm and welcoming setting for staff and visitors. To achieve this we lifted the ceiling height by exposing the services, timber was introduced in ceiling rafts and bespoke joinery pieces. Soft velvet materials, moss walls, brass features and textured furniture were all incorporated into the design, all of these considered materials helped build the hospitality environment which was desired.

Wanting to create an exceptional experience for visiting clients as well as wanting to present IFS’ own technology and systems, client-facing spaces have been designed using advanced technology so they can be tailored to the person or business visiting the building. From personalised screens in the boutique hotel-style reception area to the technology solution in the Boardroom and the mind-blowing floor to ceiling state-of-the-art screens in the Client Experience Centre, each part of the client’s journey has been thoughtfully considered and showcases IFS’ innovative products and services.

Area’s Design Director, Kathryn O’Callaghan-Mills, comments: “On behalf of the Area team, we’re delighted that our project for IFS has been shortlisted for Mixology20’s Project of the Year Award! It was amazing to work with a client who puts the physical, emotional and mental wellbeing of their staff at the heart of the design brief.  IFS were willing to be bold and invest in spaces such as the Auditorium and Client Experience Centre, the addition of these zones really makes the workspace a destination to visit and enjoy.  We have a little while to wait, but we’re excited to celebrate with the client’s team on the evening!”

Due to the pandemic, the Mixology20 Awards have been postponed until 2021.
