Area and Hewlett Packard were shortlisted at the DatacenterDynamics EMEA Awards 2012 for 'Innovation in the mega-data centre'. These awards form part of the Global Awards Programme which recognises innovation and leadership across the data centre industry.
The Tier III compliant data centre located in Suttons Business Park, Reading is a data recovery facility which has been transformed from one data hall in to two data halls and additional mezzanine office accommodation.
To help maximise use of the server space in Data Hall 2, HP Facilities and commercial interiors specialist Area replaced the existing multi-column structure with a single column solution. This enabled the business to provide clients with 7,800 sq ft of IT Technical space for data racks. Data Hall 2 can now accommodate a further 350 high density racks drawing 2400W per rack.
The innovative design of Data Hall 2 included the construction of a mezzanine level which helped future-proof the building and allow further expansion of the business. The new mezzanine provides 7,850 sq ft of office space and supports HP’s ambition to provide excellent accommodation for both staff and customers.
Other features are the inclusion of the latest generation Daikin Chillers providing free cooling capabilities and a full UPS back up system.
Colin Pye, Director, Area says: "We are delighted to win this European award for our work with HP at Suttons Business Park. The project has totally transformed this data centre and we’re proud of the end result".
