How do you typically start your day?
Although I would love say that I wake up early and go to the gym, I really enjoy my sleep (I get stressed out if I’m not in bed by 11pm) so I sleep in as long as possible! But once I am awake, I’m constantly bouncing off the walls, I’m very lively and bubbly - which is why I enjoy working for Area as I’m surrounded by likeminded people. I live close by to our Egham office so I only have a 15-minute drive to work. I always have a cup of tea and some breakfast when I arrive as it’s a great time to catch up with everyone before the working day begins.
What does your typical day look like?
I start my day by checking my emails, from this I create a to do list and prioritise the different tasks. My days are never the same as they depend on what projects are live and which stage they are at. I like to write out my lists rather than have them on the computer so I can physically cross them out as I go and ensure I haven’t missed anything.
I also like to stay healthy so at the beginning of the week I’ll prep my lunches so I can avoid unhealthy choices while hungry - unless it is someone’s birthday and then in that case we usually go to one of the pubs or restaurants in Egham to celebrate as a team.
What are your main duties?
I would say my job is divided into 3 main aspects. The first is dealing with day to day administration that comes with a live construction site. The second, creating O&M manual documents by receiving information from sub-contractors and then collating all that information. This is important because it’s the final document left with the client, apart from the project itself it is one of the last impressions you leave on them, so everything must be up to scratch. The final aspect is keeping up to date with environmental/ health & safety information, helping out with office based tasks and being our site based staff’s point of call should they need anything. So it can vary quite a bit.
I’d say my duties have changed since I began working here 2 years ago, the reason for this is we have made improvements to the role’s processes, which has been beneficial to the business, but also to the way that I work as well.
What is it like working with the delivery team?
It’s an amazing team to be part of because the team has such a high family aspect and we are all connected on so many different levels. We all trust one another, work hard together and get on well and this reflects in our results. I feel lucky to be part of a team with such a great dynamic.
What’s it like working for Area?
We are like a family! There is always such a lively atmosphere in Area which makes working here so special. I’ve been lucky enough to get involved in our company charity events and in planning some of the social events too which has been really exciting and it goes to show the array of opportunities here you can have at Area. I also was involved in the recent merger between Area Sq. and Cube, on the social side and also having an input on any changes on my job role, which was a lot of work but very rewarding as I thrive off change.
How do you unwind after a long day?
I guess it quite cliché - but I like going to the gym or watching Netflix! However, I also recently tried my hand at kayaking and have started to play netball in the “back to netball” initiative which I really enjoy! It’s so fun because I’m quite competitive, but I get the thrill without the stress of a hard-core match.
What is your favourite part of the day?
Definitely lunch time! There always seem to be a good reason to celebrate whether it’s a birthday or marriage/engagement it’s nice to be able to socialise with my team outside of the working day.
