The objectives

Area was employed to deliver the Cat B fit-out for the HFMA member’s conference centre. In which we were required to provide a facility that could deliver a one-stop shop to the NHS and external organisations for conferencing, remote working i.e. capacity, flexibility, multi-use IT welfare, and catering.

Our solution

This project required the refurbishment of two floors including reception and coffee lounge with work zones for members and delegates, including the installation of sliding, hide-away, partitions to create a stunning versatile conference and exhibition facility with adjoining meeting rooms. Along with the construction and fit-out of a commercial kitchen to facilitate the centres catering needs. Split shift working was required to satisfy the landlord, neighbours and Westminster Council’s noise restrictions.

Key challenges

Key to the success of this project was undertaking the civil engineering works to the basement, this consisted of cutting through reinforced concrete slab to facilitate the additional drainage via the use of water cutting equipment to reduce noise. The mechanical installation was undertaken within a limited ceiling void, so reshaping of ductwork was required whilst still coordinating with recess light fittings.

Technical aspects

Key to the successful delivery of this project was the installation of state-of-the-art audio-visual facilities, custom bespoke joinery, back painted glass toilet partitions and wall, and feature walls to match ceiling to give a seamless “curved” line from one to other, with hideaway cupboards.
