The objectives

As part of this leading media and entertainment law firm’s growth, a relocation was planned to this leading London building in Tavistock Square. Key to the design was to challenge the way the business operated with a more flexible open-plan format. Unique to Michael Simkins was the requirement for flexible space to facilitate large audiences and exhibition space.

Our Solution

The front of house space consisted of a modern and contemporary reception leading to large meeting rooms with folding walls and folding furniture to enable room transition. Design of the Partners’ offices required an integration with furniture product and selection through sister company Sketch Studios.

Key challenges

Key to the project’s success was Area’s skill in linking the design with the complexity of the passive chilled beam system and Microcell raised floor. Careful product selection and matching of finishes to the lift lobbies and reception through to the office space created a sense of flow and core building quality. Liaison with building manager and other contractors within this new building was critical to the success of the project.

Technical Aspects

The design of folding walls and partitions needed careful integration with the building’s passive chilled beam system and exposed soffits not to restrict airflow. The micro cell raised floor was used to maximise floor to ceiling heights whilst providing flexibility with power and data layouts, careful consideration was given to data cabling and distribution in partnership with the client’s IT support team.

"Trevor and his team provided an excellent service to my client. I look forward to working with them again."
