Rapid expansion meant easyJet plc needed to convert a 1970’s hangar at Luton airport into an office environment. As one of the largest cantilever structures of its type in the UK, Hangar 89 can house three Airbus 319s/Boeing 737s at once. The plan was to create 50,000 sq ft of consolidated office space with a low-cost budget and challenging timescales.
The fit-out involved creating large open-plan areas, without a single cellular office, but with a strong corporate identity expressing itself throughout. The entire exterior cladding was painted orange, giving the airline massive brand visibility, especially from the air. As a workplace, the environment captured the distinctive culture and ethos of the company.
"We appointed Area on the basis that it understood the easyJet culture and were able to deliver a cost-effective solution. Consolidating our premises also means savings to the business, which ultimately will be passed on to the consumer."
