Our team fitted out the offices of game developer, The Creative Assembly, back in 2007. When the firm acquired an additional floor of the building to expand, they asked us to assist again with this office fit-out project. The client wanted an industrial design with exposed functional elements that wouldn’t look contrived. The broader goal was to create an eclectic office environment which would encourage collaboration between teams whilst supporting different aspects of gaming.
The empty shell required Area to complete a full CAT A fit-out, including mechanical and electrical installations to satisfy the landlord and The Creative Assembly's requirements. Careful consideration was paid to the location, acoustics and visual appearance of all the mechanical and electrical equipment which would normally be concealed. Lighting rafts were hung from the exposed ceilings to open up the space and provide a contemporary industrial feel. To soften this, natural finishes were employed throughout the office interior. Our sister firm, Sketch Studios, provided the furniture.
Creative spaces - Soft and comfortable ‘Think Tank’ lounges were created in order to give staff areas conducive to test games or hold informal meetings. Meanwhile a rotating interactive display wall with LCD screens provides an innovative way to brainstorm or present ideas.
