Central Working, one of the fastest growing co-working businesses in the UK and international market, were tasked with delivering a high spec, co-working space for Landlords Imperial College London’s major new campus in White city that would foster creativity, bring together world-class researchers, businesses and partners to share ideas and turn cutting edge research into benefits for society.
Area was brought on board in a Detail & Build capacity to deliver Central Working’s design intent after successfully delivering several projects for them across London.
As there was a strong focus on ensuring that the design fostered creativity and yet also had the capability to accommodate 300 desk positions, the brief was met by creating cellular offices with large glass partitions and oversized sliding glass door to help keep an airy, open plan feeling throughout the floor. Timber flooring was used throughout the space to create a warm homely feel where tenants feel relaxed. Base building services were also upgraded to allow for the large headcount, along with a new fresh air system.
"Working with Area has been a dream. The team is exceptionally knowledgeable, always willing to offer support and nothing is ever a challenge which is such a refreshing change. Their years of experience are evident with our project being delivered smoothly on time and in budget. We look forward to working with them again in the future."
Managing Director, Central Working
This was the first finished building in part of a 700,000 sq ft development which will eventually include a mix of student accommodation, offices and retail areas. As such site logistics took careful consideration as deliveries were being coordinated to a working building site which presents multiple health and safety issues. However, Area worked closely with the building manager and main contractors to ensure a smooth and successful delivery.
